Iolo Morganwg's People

'You were, I presume, in good spirits and kept the table in a roar by your effusions'
(Walter Davies to Iolo Morganwg, 24 July 1810, NLW 21280E. no. 86)

Walter Davies (Gwallter Mechain) testified that Iolo Morganwg was indeed good company, and so it is hardly surprising that his social circles were wide and varied. They included the inhabitants of Glamorgan, poets and collectors of manuscripts throughout Wales, the London-Welsh, Welsh and British antiquaries, as well as numerous radicals and Unitarians. The people with whom he was acquainted reflect the diverse subjects which interested him. These pages contain short biographical notes on some of the individuals who played a prominent rôle in Iolo's life and legacy, highlighting the nature of their relationship with Iolo and their engagement with his ideas.
