Hwfa Môn

Rowland Williams (Hwfa Môn, 1823-1905), Independent minister and poet, was the most influential Welsh Archdruid before the Second World War. During his time in office the Gorsedd moved to the centre of Eisteddfod proceedings and acquired the sumptuous historicist regalia and costumes which have been used ever since. He was seen by many as an 'incarnation of the secrets of the bardic circle' and thus lent dignity and credibility to the Gorsedd as an institution.
