Trial by Jury (London 1795)
This poem demonstrates Iolo Morganwg's commitment to
radical politics. He had been invited to write a poem on the acquittal of Thomas Hardy, Horne Tooke, and John Thelwall in late 1794. This, his celebration of the event, was recited at the Crown and Anchor Tavern on 5 February 1795. Furthermore, Iolo claimed to have been present at the trial of Horne Tooke.
