Edward Eagleton to Iolo Morganwg, 3 August 1782

(NLW 21282E, no. 142)

This is a wonderful example of the way in which Iolo made use of every scrap of paper at his disposal. The original letter from Edward Eagleton, a tea merchant from London, is dated 1782. Iolo recycled this letter about 1812 because these untidy notes are a draft version of the introduction to his volume of hymns, Salmau yr Eglwys yn yr Anialwch (1812). Portions of these notes rail against the 'Deudneudwyr' (the men of north Wales) as well as Owen Jones (Owain Myfyr).
