St Mary Church

Iolo and Margaret (Peggy) Robert(s) were married at St Mary Church in July 1781. In a letter, dated 20 September 1783, to Owen Jones (Owain Myfyr), Iolo described his marriage as the deathbed of the muse ('bedd yr awen') (see also Daniel Walters's letter to Iolo Morganwg, 1 October 1782). The Revd John Walters officiated at the marriage service and also at the baptism of their first child, Margaret (Peggy), in July 1782.

At the back of the church lies a splendid tombstone carved by Iolo for his father-in-law Rees Robert(s), who died in 1780. This ornate stone testifies to his skill as a stonemason.
